Christian Direction is a Christian ministry in Montreal with over 50 years of experience partnering with local congregations and community organizations for the social and spiritual transformation of youth, families and their communities in Quebec. 

Innovation Youth is located in Peter-McGill, on the western end of downtown Montreal. Its mission is to offer a community space to families and youth living in or frequently visiting downtown, opening up possibilities for harmonious integration into family, social and academic life. Amongst its services, Innovation Youth offers Connections, a high school diploma program, a children’s library, urban agriculture initiatives, community development and food autonomy programs.

Job Posting

Time commitment  21 hours per week until December 20th, 35 hours per week, starting January 5th

Where – Innovation Jeunes

Pay scale  $20.20 - $ 23.84 according to experience

Start date  As soon as possible

End date – Contract of 1 year, renewable depending on funding.

Purpose of this role – This role exists to serve residents of Peter-McGill and to alleviate food insecurity in this neighbourhood.

The food bank Innovation-Assistance launched during the COVID-19 pandemic at Innovation Youth, along with several community and ecclesial partners, transitioned into a Solidarity Market that serves the residents of Peter-McGill. The floor manager will be responsible for the smooth running of operations on a daily basis, including managing inventory, assigning tasks to volunteers, organizing the markets and nurturing healthy relationships with members of this community.  

Main responsibilities

  • Oversee the running of the markets including helping set-up and take-down

  • Ensure the organization of leftover inventory, containers and kitchen equipment.

  • Ensure errands are run for the smooth operation of the program

  • Manage food pickups and deliveries from suppliers

  • Facilitate weekly community kitchen

  • Assign tasks to volunteers

  • Communicate necessary information with members and volunteers through biweekly newsletters, emails and calling when necessary

  • Manage incoming emails and phone calls regarding Innovation Assistance

  • Manage tracking of pickups and deliveries using collaborative tools 

  • Track food inventory using collaborative tools

  • Track market revenue and member statistics

  • Coordinate with and invoice partners for resale of unsold food

  • Participate in the fundraising campaigns related to Innovation Assistance and Innovation Youth, co-write grants with IA coordinator

  • Oversee mobilisation activities, in collaboration with IA coordinator and mobilisation team

  • Oversee neighbourhood food security initiative “Coins cuisines” with the Table de quartier de Peter-McGill

  • Create advocacy resources and ensure their distribution

  • Facilitate workshops with Connections and From the Root to the City interns on subjects connected to food security

Job Requirements

Administrative

  • Attend staff check-ins and prayer meetings, Christian Direction staff meetings and retreats and other supplementary training (urban labs, etc.)

  • By accepting employment with Christian Direction, the employee agrees to perform tasks related to fundraising activities of their ministry centre and those of Christian Direction, which are included in their job description.

  • Be accountable to the Food Security Coordinator, through one-on-one mentorship and annual evaluations. 

  • Commit to Christian Direction’s mission of community engagement, spiritual well-being and healthy relationships in between staff, volunteers and the people they serve.

Experience

  • Relevant education an asset 

  • Experience leading groups of people or volunteers

  • Comfortable leading groups of different-abled youth

  • Proficiency in the kitchen an asset

Other

  • Confident communicating in French, English an important asset

  • Able to lift up to 50lbs

  • Valid driver’s license. Comfortable driving a van an asset

  • Outgoing, comfortable making conversation with a wide variety of people

  • Proficient in the Google suite

  • Ability to problem solve and adapt creatively
