West Island Network
The West Island Network (WIN) is an initiative of Christian Direction Inc. (CDI), an urban Christian ministry that partners with congregations and social service agencies for the social and spiritual transformation of youth, families, and their communities. The WIN exists to connect and resource Christ-following churches to serve their communities.
Job Posting
Time commitment – 30 hours a week
Pay scale – $14.50/h
Start date – June 1st 2022
End date – August 24th, 2022
This summer job is offered in collaboration with Service Canada and is conditional to the provision of a federal grant. The applicant must be at least 15 years old and no more than 30 years old at the moment of hiring.
Responsibilities

Community Research

Determine the landscape of community & urban gardening in the West Island

Identify potential partners and garden sites

Project Planning

Create an urban gardening proposal

Create a strategy to recruit volunteers and interns

Select garden sites

Gardening

Plant gardens with volunteers

Ensure upkeep of garden sites

Community Engagement

Design short-term student internships for youth

Connect and develop partnerships with churches and youth organizations to design future internships

Attend biweekly staff check-ins and prayer meetings, WIN CAITeam meetings and other supplementary training

Participate in the Urban Labs training program, a theological undergirding to urban practice
Qualifications

Experience in gardening, agriculture, or similar fields (e.g. working at a nursery)

Comfortable in English and French

Knowledge of regenerative and/or Indigenous agriculture a plus

Christian Direction is a Christian organisation. Its vision is to see God transform all of life in urban communities by the concerted actions of committed Christians. It fulfils its vision through partnerships with churches that are committed towards their local community and doing ministries with committed Christians. Christian Direction has several ministry sites located in five boroughs in Montréal, but is also doing ministry elsewhere in Quebec.
