Innovation Youth

Supervised by the Innovation Youth Coordinator, the coordinator of the Connections program works with students and clients, offering psycho-social, spiritual, health and academic support. This person meets with youth, coordinates their school plan, follows up on personal or health related needs and liaises with the center’s various partners in order to help youth progress through their intervention plans. The person is in charge of designing and implementing Innovation Youth’s Connections program and all affiliated activities.

Responsibilities 

Personal development

  • Attend staff meetings, staff days at Christian Direction, AGM, new staff trainings,  contribute to our strategic plan, contribute to the team’s efforts in building spiritual well-being and a strong vision of transformation of Montreal’s youth and families.

  • Work with Innovation Youth Coordinator to ensure cohesion of Connections within the greater Innovation Youth vision and other ministries

  • Adherence to Christian Direction’s policies, the Nicene creed and code of conduct. 

  • Establish and maintain a prayer and support network, and a plan for personal and spiritual growth.  

  • Commitment to Christian Direction’s mission of community engagement, spiritual well-being and healthy relationships in between staff, volunteers and the people they serve. 

Administrative and Financial

  • Organize and facilitate the Connections program.

  • Maintain students’ files and liaise with any necessary external services including the DEAL program at the EMSB to meet youth’s needs. 

  • Oversee and track a budget for Connections program.

  • Establish weekly and seasonal schedules, as well as school-related schedules and volunteer schedules. 

  • Assist the intervention workers in finding volunteering opportunities or internship placements.

  • Attend support training, and work on fund development with the team at Innovation Youth, raise 10% of personal support.  

  • Coordinate and plan fundraiser for Connections program.

 

Intervention  

  • Supervise the Connections students at Innovation Youth ensuring their academic and psycho-social progress. 

  • Assess students’ needs and guide students as they create and pursue their personal, professional and academic objectives plan. 

  • Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with students and their support networks. 

  • Commitment to building a thriving, healthy environment for students and families. 

  • Meet with students to follow through on their goals and intervention plans.

  • Refer students on a need-based basis to necessary health and social services. 

  • Develop workshops and activities based on students’ personal, spiritual and academic needs. 

  • Accompany students to exams and occasional appointments. 

  • Recruit and assign volunteer tutors to students.

 

Representation

  • Attend committees pertinent to Connections (Youth Action Committee), and collaborate with partners in the neighbourhood

  • Assist the staff in the execution of the social media plan.

  • Plan in the coordination for certain events such as Christmas parties, graduation, etc.

Qualifications

  • Open to a long-term commitment to this role (at least 2 years)

  • Passionate for youth empowerment and flourishing

  • Strong youth intervention skills, particularly those with special needs 

  • Minimum 3 years experience in intervention or psychosocial assistance with youth

  • Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written)

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience with various communication tools and social media

  • Experience working in the community development sector an asset

  • Excellent team player

  • Comfortable with Google Suite and Microsoft Excel

  • Comfortable in fundraising

Context and Organisation

Innovation Youth is an urban ministry located in Peter-McGill, on the western end of downtown Montreal. Its mission is to offer a community space to families and youth living in or frequently visiting downtown, opening up possibilities for harmonious integration into family, social and academic life. Amongst its services, Innovation Youth offers Connections, a high school diploma program, a children’s library, urban agriculture initiatives, community development and food autonomy programs. 

 

Christian Direction is a Christian organisation. Its vision is to see God transform all of life in urban communities by the concerted actions of committed Christians. It fulfils its vision through partnerships with churches that are committed towards their local community and doing ministries with committed Christians. Christian Direction has several ministry sites located in five boroughs in Montréal, but is also doing ministry elsewhere in Quebec.
