Innovation Assistance
The vision of Innovation Youth is to offer a space for the neighbourhood to address issues of food insecurity and food justice, called Innovation Assistance. Innovation Assistance is a solidarity market model, while offering community kitchen workshops to the neighbourhood. The community liaison worker is responsible for working with IA team, volunteers and members, supervised by the Innovation Youth Coordinator. They will help run community kitchens, assist in planning, setup/take down of markets and participate in community mobilization activities around food security and justice.

Pay scale – $15.50/h

Two positions to fill
This summer job is offered in collaboration with Service Canada and is conditional to the provision of a federal grant. The applicant must be at least 15 years old and no more than 30 years old at the moment of hiring.
Responsibilities

Help with set-up/take-down of solidarity market space

Assist in the planning of and attend volunteer board “games” meetings
-
Assist in the workshops for Peter-McGill residents, community kitchens, nutrition, budgeting, developmentally appropriate for children and their families, and youth

Participate in program evaluation meetings, attend operations debrief meetings

Assist in related tasks to the solidarity market

Collaborate with the volunteer engagement officer for workshops and mobilization activities

Attend biweekly staff check-ins and prayer meetings, Christian Direction staff meetings and other supplementary training

Assist volunteer engagement officer with volunteers related tasks

Assist gardener in the gardens

Assist with communications and other administrative tasks
Qualifications
-
Bilingual in French and English (spoken and written)

Is passionate for food justice

Experience in education or in community development
-
Comfort working within a team environment

Experience with newly landed immigrants an asset

Sociable, at ease to speak with a diversity of people

Context and Organisation
Christian Direction is a Christian organisation. Its vision is to see God transform all of life in urban communities by the concerted actions of committed Christians. It fulfils its vision through partnerships with churches that are committed towards their local community and doing ministries with committed Christians. Christian Direction has several ministry sites located in five boroughs in Montréal, but is also doing ministry elsewhere in Quebec.
Innovation Youth is one of Christian Direction’s urban ministries located in Peter-McGill, on the western end of downtown Montreal. It’s mission is to offer a community space to families and youth living in or frequently visiting downtown, opening up possibilities for harmonious integration into family, social and academic life. Amongst its services, Innovation Youth offers Connections, a high school diploma program, a children’s library, urban agriculture initiatives, community development and food autonomy programs.
