Community Liaison

Mission Montréal
The Community Liaison Worker works on various outreach and community activities in Saint Léonard and Saint-Michel with the staff of Église de la Philadelphia and other partner churches. This summer staff will help write the community assessment of Montréal-Nord; this research project is the tool which will help local churches understand needs, strengths and ministry opportunities in their local neighbourhood.

Time commitment – 30 hours a week
Pay scale – $15.50/h (including increase of minimum wage of May 1st, 2023)
Start date – May 1st, 2023
End date – August 18th, 2023/16 weeks
This summer job is offered in collaboration with Service Canada and is conditional to the provision of a federal grant. The applicant must be at least 15 years old and no more than 30 years old at the moment of hiring.
Responsibilities

Helping Église de la Philadelphia animate activities and community outreach in the surrounding neighbourhood and assisting the pastors at Église de la Philadelphia organize youth activities

Spending volunteer hours with local organizations, supporting various community actions

Meeting and interviewing local stakeholders from community organizations, schools, youth centres and services, pastors, congregations

Creating community maps for the area, assembling lists of services and public spaces

Retrieving and assembling neighbourhood data, such as population statistics, socio economic information and heat maps

Writing and editing the community assessment for the neighbourhood under the guidance of the lead team

Attend biweekly staff check-ins and prayer meetings, Christian Direction staff meetings and other supplementary training

Participate in the Urban Labs training program, a theological undergirding to urban practice
Qualifications

Excellent written and spoken French

Enjoys volunteerism, youth and children-focused activities and community outreach

Enjoys research touching on urban planning, geography

Willing to learn the community assessment process

Autonomous but works well in a group setting

Context and Organisation
Christian Direction is a Christian organisation. Its vision is to see God transform all of life in urban communities by the concerted actions of committed Christians. It fulfils its vision through partnerships with churches that are committed towards their local community and doing ministries with committed Christians. Christian Direction has several ministry sites located in five boroughs in Montréal, but is also doing ministry elsewhere in Quebec.
