Community Service
Worker

Time commitment – 30 hours a week

Pay scale –  $15.50/h (including increase in minimum wage of May 1st, 2023) 

Start date –  May 1st, 2023  

End date –  August 18, 2023/ 16 weeks

This summer job is offered in collaboration with Service Canada and is conditional to the provision of a federal grant. The applicant must be at least 15 years old and no more than 30 years old at the moment of hiring.

Responsibilities 

• Attend biweekly staff check-ins and prayer meetings, WIN staff meetings and other supplementary training 

• Assist the coordinator of WIN in the execution, communication, and collaborative coordination of various summer activities and programs with the residents, volunteers, and community partners in and around Cloverdale and Pierrefonds.

• Specific tasks include:

  • Planting, maintaining, and harvesting from urban gardens

  • Ensuring the distribution of harvest to local food banks and food security non-profits

  • Assisting Église Oasis, On Rock Community Services, Carfour612 and the La Corde centre animate activities and perform community outreach in the Cloverdale region

  • Updating social media and websites, and creating mailchimp campaigns for the members of the West Island Network and other partners

  • Attending community events with the Program Coordinator to learn about community development

  • Assist with planning and organizing generosity and community building events hosted by WIN churches, such as block parties and food drives

  • Participating in debrief sessions after events or activities and at the end of the summer

Qualifications

• Comfortable in English and French

• Required skills: teamwork, leadership, communication, digital literacy

• Experience in administration, communications, or event planning and management a plus

• Strong sense of vocation and integration of faith and work

• Team player and team builder, participating in the life and spirituality of the team

• Not be more than 30 years old at the moment of hiring

Context and Organisation

Christian Direction is a Christian organisation. Its vision is to see God transform all of life in urban communities by the concerted actions of committed Christians. It fulfils its vision through partnerships with churches that are committed towards their local community and doing ministries with committed Christians. Christian Direction has several ministry sites located in five boroughs in Montréal, but is also doing ministry elsewhere in Quebec. The West Island Network (WIN) is an initiative of Christian Direction Inc. (CDI), an urban Christian ministry that partners with congregations and social service agencies for the social and spiritual transformation of youth, families, and their communities. The WIN exists to connect and resource Christ-following churches to serve their communities.
